Sodium butyrate is a sodium salt of butyrate and a short chain fatty acid. It is a natural byproduct of dietary fiber fermentation in your large intestine.
Butyrate is a fatty acid that is fermented by anaerobes of dietary fiber, such as cellulose, in your colon, which can combine with sodium to form a salt called sodium butyrate. the natural function of butyrate in the colon is not fully understood, butyrate is a powerful antidote for ammonium and neurotoxin, which can promote the formation of friendly or symbiotic bacteria in the stomach and intestines. Studies have shown that butyrate may also inhibit the development of colon cancer, although human research is still lacking.
some animal-based studies have shown that reusing sodium butyrate as a supplement may restore memory loss and cognitive impairment in patients with alzheimer's disease or other forms of aging. However, more human studies are needed before specific recommendations are made and are not considered part of orthodox therapies although animal-based research is promising, there is no ethical recommendation for sodium butyrate supplementation. People with cancer or various forms of aging are advised to consult their doctor before starting any supplementary programs. However, since most people do not consume enough fiber, adding more fiber to your diet is usually a safe and beneficial strategy.
