Calcium Propionate is an odorless white powder or crystal. Occasionally there will be a slight smell of propionic acid. It is stable under the exposure of heat and light. Calcium Propionate is highly soluble in water (50g/100ml), but insoluble in ethanol or ether. Under acidic environments, it generates free propionic ions with a powerful antiseptic effect. 
Studies indicate that Calcium Propionate is one of the safest food additives used in the food industry.

Product Applications:

1. Food preservative Calcium Propionate is used as a molod inhibitor mostly in baked goods such as bread, processed meat, whey, and other dairy products.
2. Calcium propionate is used in animal husbandry as a feed supplement to prevent milk fever in cows.
3. Much like the traditional Benzoic Salts do, Calcium propionate prevents microbes from acquiring the energy needed in reproduction.
4. Food preservative Calcium Propionate can also be used as a pesticide.
